Hoosier Character

Mapping 19th Century Indiana

Learn how historians, residents, and property owners are digging into their history to find out who lived on their land prior to 1900. Age 18 and up.

See how we can use oral history and traditional sources to map where they lived—the common and the bold. The Hoosier Character initiative is under construction for America's 250th birthday in 2026.

This initiative is in partnership with the Monroe County History Center and Monroe County GIS.
